Nana

My sweet Nana passed away last Friday. She was 84 years old.

My Nana was the most devout person I know, so in a way, I'm so happy for her because she finally got to go to Heaven and meet God, whom she has loved so strongly for so many years. At the same time, I selfishly wish she were still here with us.

My Nana was a beautiful singer and an excellent back scratcher. She loved watching football just as much as she loved watching the birds on her back patio. She loved her family, and God, above all else. She carried herself with such poise and grace, which somehow she managed even while being weighed down with what had to have been a 12lb purse!

I miss her mannerisms.  I miss the way she moved her hands or how she would inhale sharply and grimace a certain way when one of us ruffled her feathers. I miss sitting with her at a table, with her long fingers elegantly wrapped around a mug of hot coffee that she was constantly getting refreshed so it would stay piping hot. I miss her calling me her sweet girl and the change in her voice when she realized it was me on the other end of the phone.

I used to jokingly say that my Nana had a direct line to God. When she prayed, he listened.  She spent her life covering us in prayer and now that she is in heaven, I'm grateful to know that Easton, Branch and I have the best guardian angel anyone could ever ask for.

  1. Oh, I'm so sorry to read this! :( And that I didn't know. I know you will miss her greatly but how wonderful to know she is dancing in Heaven now! So sorry for your loss, friend. But you are right, you have gained the best guardian angel.
